Welcome to Year 1!

Useful Information

Year 1 teachers are Mrs Robinson and Miss Savage with Miss Corr as the Teaching Assistant.

In Year 1 the children are studying the national curriculum through hands on learning.  The children start Big Maths, which is a 15 minute mental maths session, and continue their work on phonics ready for the Phonics Check at the end of Year 1. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/school-year/assessment-at-primary-school/phonics-screening-check/

In Year 1 we have PE at least once a week therefore PE kits should be in school at all times.

Reading books should be in school daily so that they can be changed throughout the week.

Please ensure uniform, PE kits, lunchboxes and water bottles are labelled.

Homework

In year 1 pupils have their reading homework and big maths sheets which are for the children to use and practise at home.  Children have access to TT Rockstars to practise their times tables

Our new RE unit is 'Prayer'

This unit is designed to develop the children’s understanding of prayer as a special way of spending time with God. In the unit children will also explore the vocabulary, actions, places and aids associated with prayer, with particular reference to the prayer of praise and intercession. The children will also explore how Christians give praise to God in the psalms and in prayers like the 'Glory Be To The Father' and the 'Our Father'.
