Curriculum Guide

 Our Curriculum

St Peter’s Catholic Primary School is committed to meeting the requirements of the new primary curriculum from September 2014.

In EYFS and KS1 we follow the Jolly Phonics scheme to prepare our pupils for their phonics screening test at the end of Year 1. We use the Oxford Reading Tree scheme of books in EYFS and at the start of Year 1. Children then progress onto Accelerated Reading, where they choose their own books from their level in our library and then take quizzes on them . We use  Catch Up® Literacy and Catch Up® Numeracy as an intervention to support learning.

Our curriculum will be exciting and will inspire children to nurture a passion for learning.

Our curriculum will be based on a thematic approach to learning and many of the topics change regularly to excite and stimulate the children. A skills-based approach is followed to ensure that the children make progress with their learning as they move through the school. The curriculum we have chosen to adopt is Cornerstones.

The curriculum will be taught with the consideration of the needs of all learners.
